Enhancing my knowledge of Evidence-Based Practice
Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) is using the best, current evidence to make decisions when caring for your patient(s). I recognize that as a nurse in the acute care setting I need to improve my EBP skills. I am working towards enhancing my knowledge of what situations I need to gain knowledge in, how and where to efficiently find EBP, how to determine if the evidence is of high quality, how to apply it to the situation to increase positive patient outcomes and how to evaluate the effectiveness of the outcome.
Three lessons I learned from my Evidence-Based Practice class
1. How to develop a PPAARE or a PICO to successfully research for relevant information.
2. That it is within my job description to ask questions, look for answers, and implement evidence-based practice
into the care that I provide for my patients.
3. A team approach with different levels of insight can be extremely helpful to the EBP process

Becoming a nurse who values Evidence-Based Practice
The information from my evidence-based practice course will be invaluable to my professional nursing career. It has taught me what EBP is and how invaluable it is to use in healthcare. I have learned how to develop a question and research for a high level of relevant evidence that can be used not only to guide my choices in how I do things as a nurse, but can also be used to give a rationale to my patients as to why things are done that specific way. This class has also shown me that I can be an advocator for EBP in my healthcare setting. I have learned how to write a report to present evidence for a focused question that can be used to contribute to the processes used in my care setting. As I continue to evolve as a professional nurse, I will continuously use the information I learned in this course to guide my decisions regarding evidence-based practice.
